Yobe state was created on the 27^thof August 1991. The capital is Damaturu.

Yobe derived its name from the River Yobe which is a major geographical feature of the state.

Number of Local Government Areas: The state has 17 Local Government Areas.

Boundaries: Yobe State shares borders with Borno State to the East, Gombe State to the South, Bauchi and Jigawa States to the East and Niger Republic to the North.

Natural Resources: Gypsum,  Kaolin,  Quartz.  

Yobe state is rich in Agricultural produce such as Gum Arabic, cotton and Groundnuts. The state also  has one of the largest Cattle markets in Africa
