Yobe state was created on the 27thof August 1991. The capital is Damaturu.
Yobe derived its name from the River Yobe which is a major geographical feature of the state.

Boundaries: Yobe State shares borders with Borno State to the East, Gombe State to the South, Bauchi and Jigawa States to the East and Niger Republic to the North.

Yobe state is rich in Agricultural produce such as Gum Arabic, cotton and Groundnuts. The state also has one of the largest Cattle markets in Africa
