Nasarawa State was created on the 1st of October 1996. The capital is Lafia.
The name is derived from the Nasarawa Emirate, which existed in 1838 as a vassal state to Zaria.

Boundaries: It is bordered to the east by the states of Taraba and Plateau, to the north by Kaduna State, to the south by the states of Benue and Kogi and to the west by the Federal Capital Territory.
