The Ezza North local government area is one of the thirteen local government areas in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Established in 1996 following the creation of Ebonyi on 1st October 1996, it’s worth noting that Ezza North local government was initially part of the old Ezza local government area before the formation of Ebonyi state.

Ezza North local government area has its headquarters situated at Ebiaji town. Covering an area of 305km² and with a population of 145,619 according to the 2006 National Population Census, it is predominantly an Igbo area inhabited by Ezza people, whose common language is the Ezza language. The Ezza North local government council is responsible for ensuring good governance in the area, led by the executive Chairman, Hon. Nomeh Ogodoali. The indigenes are primarily known for agriculture, especially rice planting and livestock rearing.

Comprising eleven communities with several villages, Ezza North includes Amuda/Amawula community, Ekka community, Inyere community, Umuoghara community, Nkomoro community, Ogboji community, Okposi Umuoghara autonomous community, Omege umuezeokoha community, Oriuzor community, Oshiegbe Umuezeokoha community, and Umuezeoka community.

 Challenges Faced By The People

  1. Lack Of Funds And Amenities: Citizens, who predominantly engage in agriculture, face challenges in upgrading their farm work due to a lack of funds and necessary amenities. They require fertilizers and other farm tools to enhance productivity.
  2. Insecurities: Insecurity is a prevailing issue in Ezza North, as in many parts of the country. Economic hardships have led to increased theft of farm products by youths, instilling fear among farmers and hindering cultivation. Insecurity also persists in some areas of Ezza North, such as Oriuzor Community, where criminal activities occur, resulting in cases of gender-based violence in healthcare centers and hospitals. Additionally, access to clean water is lacking in certain areas.
  3. Transportation: Poor road conditions leading to Ezza North make transportation difficult for both farmers and individuals, hampering economic activities.
  4. Assessment of Good Health Care: Citizens encounter difficulties in accessing healthcare centres due to long distances. Persons with disabilities face additional challenges, often resorting to home care services.
  5. Poor Education System in Our Public Schools: There is a shortage of teachers, desks, and teaching materials in public schools, affecting the quality of education. Introducing vocational subjects could enhance learning outcomes.

In conclusion, addressing these challenges is crucial for the development of Ezza North. Collaboration between local and national authorities, along with community involvement, is essential to overcome these obstacles and build a resilient and prosperous community.
